datepit

Have you ever really looked at a date pit? There are several instances in the Qurʾān where Allāh I mentions the various parts of a pit – namely, the qiṭmīr, the fatīl, and the naqīr – to illustrate several powerful points. The next time you break your fast with a date, don’t discard the pit right away. Take a good look at it, remember the verses in which it is mentioned, and the tiny pit between your fingers will help give you a sense of tranquility and awe that can only come from reflecting on the āyāt of Allāh I.

4. Grace: “Anyone, male or female, who does good deeds and is a believer, will enter Paradise and will not be wronged by as much as the dip in a date stone.” [4:124]

6. Controller of all things: “He makes the night merge into the day and the day into the night; He has subjected the sun and the moon – each runs for an appointed term. Such is God your Lord: all control belongs to Him. Those you invoke beside Him do not even control the skin of a date stone.” [35:13]
