8 Ramadan Prep Tips

Ramadan is right around the corner. It only lasts one month, a great and blessed month.

So like the visit of a special, long-awaited guest, we want to make the most of our time together,

not waste it due to mismanagement and poor planning.

So here are 8 tips to help us get us ready BEFORE Ramadan.

1) Get Your Eid Clothes and all your Eid Gifts purchased and wrapped, all ready BEFORE Ramadan.

2) Plan Your Menu, stock up on dry goods, prepare and freeze what you can, BEFORE Ramadan. That means
  • less shopping
  • less cooking
  • less pots to wash DURING Ramadan.

3) Analyze Yourself and Your Routine:

Figure out BEFORE Ramadan when your premium hours will be, the ones where you’ll have the most energy and no urgent duties, and reserve these for the Quran. Maybe this is right after praying salat ul-fajr.
4) Deep clean and declutter your home BEFORE Ramadan, so that it is clean and organized, but it can still make do with minimum maintenance DURING Ramadan.
5) Organize Your Dua List:
Whether from books or from your own personal needs or the needs of your loved ones, compile lists of duas.
Place them strategically to be used when breaking your fast, after salah, in tahajjud, during the last 10 nights, etc.
Imagine how grateful you’ll feel, when you’re really drained and feel brain dead, that you can simply reach for this list, because you did this BEFORE Ramadan.
6) Increase Your Stamina:
Train yourself to stay hungry for a little more time each day.
Got any pending fasts owing? Make them up NOW and use that as training. We have a support group, the Fasting Club; talk to me if you’re interested in joining.
Exercise to increase your stamina.
Get used to keeping your temper in check despite hunger and fatigue, BEFORE Ramadan.7) Make a realistic Goal List:
For example, parcel out your planned amount of Quran, such as reading 5 pages after each salah other than Maghrib (that iftar time!) to finish a juz per day.
I also like to have an Ibadah log to make sure that I don’t neglect areas, such as studying hadith, charity, etc. I also use the log to track my Quran recitation and extra prayers, keeping myself accountable.
Whatever it is, make sure to get it ready BEFORE Ramadan.
8) Most importantly, make dua: that we reach Ramadan, and that it be full of barakah, and accepted worship.
